National Quality Award

National Quality Award

At the end of last term the hard work of children and staff was rewarded when we gained the National Quality Award for Healthy School, an award only seven other schools in Powys have gained. Our award was presented to us at Powys County Hall. Three of our children, Callum Hawksworth, Carwyn Hardiman and Emily Proudman gave a presentation of the work covered to the County Councillors in the Council chamber, making us very proud with their confidence.

In order to gain the award, the school had to prove it had very high expectations and standards in seven areas:- Safety, Hygiene, the Environment, Relationships, Substance Use and Misuse, Food and Fitness and Emotional Education. Our school was inspected by the Healthy School Team and also two Assessors from Pembrokeshire. These inspectors were guided around the school by our School council, Eco Council and Cyngor Cymraeg who ensured nothing that we had done was missed.

Here are a few comments from the report:-

* “The health and wellbeing of all members of the community is at the heart of everything that happens at Llandrindod Wells C in W Primary School, Trefonnen. The school lives their vision statement of ‘Caring, Inspiring, Achieving Together’.”

* “Llandrindod Wells C in W Primary School, Trefonnen is a school with health, wellbeing and safety at its core with, health promotion firmly embedded into the life of the school. It was a privilege to meet the pupils, staff, governors and parents. We were made very welcome during our visit and appreciate the hard work involved .”

* “There is an excellent ethos, which is evident when entering the school, staff and pupils alike provide a very warm welcome. Equality in all aspects of school life is evident and there is a true ‘open door policy’. Parents speak very highly of the caring, nurturing school where “communication and openness is amazing”.”

So, we begin the new school year as an accredited Healthy school. I am sure you will want us to maintain our standards and can do so by ensuring your child has a water bottle in order to remain alert and hydrated, fruit only for snacks and a healthy lunch box if they bring their own lunch. They also need their PE kits for Activate and PE, and swimming kits when it is their turn to swim. With your help and support we look forward to developing the areas still further. Thank You.
